We Want Disruption Until It’s Us Being Disrupted

“So many of us in business (say) ‘I want innovation. I want disruption. I want the next big thing’,” said Bradley West to his DisruptHR audience in Winnipeg last year. But “Stop changing my process,” he added mockingly.

The message West, Chief Disruptor & Founder at Disruptive Integration, delivered was disruption is good until we have to make a change.

Yet, as he pointed out, “Disruption means just that. You’re going to have to change. Change requires change.” It means shattering the mirror your company looks into because mirrors only show you what you already see, West says.

Companies fail because they “didn’t have diversity. They didn’t have innovation as part of their culture. They didn’t have a rainbow.” It’s survival of the most adaptable, West says. “It is not the strongest that survive. It is the most flexible that survives. The most adaptive.”

His presentation is a call to arms: “Are you ready to be disrupted” Because disruption will require discomfort. It will require change. It will require abandonment. You will have to forget about best practices and start focusing on next practices.”
