Sometimes HR Just Has to Go Big and Fail Fast

What would happen if HR just went ahead and tried something new?

No lengthy conversations; no insisting on a unanimous consensus; and certainly no pilot.

“I Googled ‘entrepreneurship and HR’, and got very, very little results,” said Tariq Elnaga, manager, talent development & diversity at Spectra Energy. “I Googled ‘HR and policy’, and you can only imagine how many results I got. I almost broke the internet. So, how can we bring entrepreneurship into HR and get things done?”

Taking risks and getting things done was the theme of Elnaga’s presentation last fall to a Calgary, Canada DisruptHR audience.

Yes, there will be times when just pushing ahead won’t be successful. “That’s OK,” he said. “Go big. Fail fast. But learn even faster.”
