Ignite HR: Your Employer Brand Has Power – That’s Why HR Should Own It

There’s been a debate going on in HR, and if you have been listening, you probably have heard it loud and clear:

What should HR ultimately be responsible for? Should they have a seat at the table? Aren’t they simply about compliance and handling the forms and paperwork? Should they report to the CEO or or the CFO? Is HR strategic or simply tactical? What REALLY should human resources be about?

The debate isn’t new and it gets trotted out in various ways and places, but if you go to events and/or listen closely, you hear it and hear it a lot.

Why HR should own the employer brand

That’s why this Ignite HR presentation by Stuart Chittenden at October’s 2nd annual HR Reinvention “Experiment” in Omaha was called Getting to NO, and it tackled this very subject. It was about encouraging us to think about dismantling HR as “the 100 year old house that has been added on to, and added on to, and added on to…”

In “The Brand Coup,” Stuart Chittenden makes the case that HR should own the brand. He defines the brand and  showcases the power of brand, especially the brand that integrates actual employee experience, all with a great British accent!

Ignite HR: A tight format

Ignite HR is a format that gives presenters a tight structure of 5 minutes, 20 slides and exactly 15 seconds per slide. This makes it hard for presenters or conference attendees to linger on any one slide, any one point, and any single issue.

These presentations were originally given at the HR Reinvention conference put on by Jason Lauritsen and Joe Gerstandt, the two guys behind Talent Anarchy, in October in Omaha, and since TLNT was the media sponsor of the event, I agreed to possibly using the Ignite HR presentations here at TLNT if they seemed good.

You should watch these videos and make up your mind for yourself. The Ignite HR experience in Omaha was related to the theme of “putting the human back in human resources,” so if you are interested in that — and that’s why you’re here at TLNT, I would think — then these video are clearly for you.
