Hiring Wisdom: Is Loyalty Now Just a Thing of the Past?

Much ado has been made about the erosion of employee loyalty, but which came first, the chicken or the egg?

Because of things like mergers, downsizing, phasing out pensions, technological innovations, and economic cycles, employers were the first ones to let loyalty go by the boards. Employees simply followed suitHR. It seems there’s no economic payoff to loyalty for anyone any longer.

A more recent trend has been the disintegration of customer loyalty and most fingers are pointed at all the choices the Internet serves up and apps that let all of us instantly compare prices.

Because of these two trends, it’s never been more important to have both a Unique Selling Proposition (besides price) and a Unique Employment Proposition (besides money).
